  1. Name: Tim S.
  2. DAS Position/Role: Member

  3. Location:Riverton, NJ

  4. What are your favorite animes, music, and Asian cinema?
Anime: Haibane Renmei, Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Noein, Mushishi, Key: the Metal Idol, Escaflowne, Evagelion, Lain,... There are so many great series.

Music:Generally, I like to listen to anime OSTs, such as Yuki Kajiura (Noir), Yoko Kanno (GiTS, Cowboy Bebop, Macross Plus), Nana Kitade (FMA), Kow Otani (Haibane Renmei), Joe Hisaishi (Monoke Hime). In other music, I like oldies such as the Beatles, and the Mamas and Papas, and some classical music.

Asian Cinema: I like Azyumi, Battle Royale, and Armageddon (Gordon Chan, though the Bruce Willis one was fun), and the Grudge is the scariest movie I have ever seen.

  5. Hobbies outside of anime?Hm, I like gaming (Video and RPG [bf2142, why do you have to be so much fun, and crash so frequently]), reading science fiction and fantasy (Harry Potter!), and chess (especially bughouse), and exploring new and ancient places when I have the chance.

  6. What do you like best about the DAS? The DAS is a great place to meet and be with a fun group of fellow anime geeks.
    .

  7. What do you think the future holds for the DAS? I think the future holds many great things for the DAS, and it will continue to grow.

  8. Do you cosplay? If so, what are your favorite costume(s)

I cosplayed as 'That Evil Priest Guy in the Anime You've Seen' in the DAS Halloween minicon '06 and in Zenkaikon, and my friends are talking about cosplaying as a group in Otakon '07.

  9. Conventions attended and/or staffed?
Attended: I've attended Otakon '04 and '06, Zenkaikon '06, and the DAS Halloween and Christmas minicons in '06. I haven't yet staffed a convention, though it sounds like a lot of fun.
    Staffed: None

  10. Have you ever named a pet/computer/insert word here after an anime or Asian character? If so, which and why?
I haven't yet named a pet/computer after an anime character, though I have called Vista, "Baka," quite a few times. If I get a cat, I will probably name her, "Neko."
    .

  11. What theme or institution in anime should be decreased or increased and why?
This is a very difficult question, because what I think I like the best about anime, in general, is that the characters are very human, even in the most extraordinary situations, and the plot evolves with the characters' understanding of themselves.

Thus, I would like this trend to continue rather than fall in to the trap of two-dimension characters into which so many American dramas fall.

Also, I think that fansubbers are very benevolent groups (if they count as an institution), and I applaud the Anime industry for, in general, permitting it to continue as long as the animes have yet to be released in the US (as opposed to the actions of the RIAA and MPAA in the US music and movie industries).
